No amount of intimidation or threats will stop my quest to become Kenya’s 5th President, Deputy President William Ruto has said.

Ruto, who addressed residents of Kitengela town on Sunday, said he is ready to face the so-called ‘deep state’ and the ‘system’ in the 2022 presidential contest.

He insisted that while his competitors are armed with the ‘deep state’ and the ‘system’, God and Kenyans are on his side, exuding confidence that he will emerge the winner.

“Threats and intimidations will not deter my quest for the top seat. I am ready to face the ‘deep state.’ They have the deep state and the system, we have God and wananchi,” Ruto stated.

Ruto further urged leaders to preach peace and refrain from making utterances that may divide the country along ethnic lines.

“Leaders should preach peace, be at the forefront in forging cohesion, and focused on serving the people. We are past the politics of ethnicity and hate. Ours is development-leaning politics that will transform our country,” he said.

He went on: “The Coronavirus has inflicted a lot of suffering to the people. The priority now is for leaders to work together and focus on addressing the sticky challenges of poverty and unemployment besides facilitating the recovery of the economy.”

Ruto had earlier attended church services at Free Pentecostal Baraka Church and Kitengela Methodist Church.

He was accompanied by several MPs including George Sunkuyia (Kajiado West), Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira), Gitonga Murugara (Tharaka), Victor Munyaka (Machakos), George Theuri (Embakasi West), Vincent Musyoka (Mwala), and Rahab Mukami (Woman Rep, Nyeri).

Others were Nimrod Mbai (Kitui East), Alice Wahome (Kandara), Kubai Iringo (Igembe Central), Mathias Robi (Kuria West), Rindikiri Mugambi (Buuri) and Patrick Munene (Chuka/Igembe Ngombe), Kimani Ichungwa (Kikuyu), John Mutunga (Tigania West), George Kariuki (Ndia), James Gakuya (Embakasi North), Korir Nixon (Lang’ata) and Jayne Kihara (Naivasha).
