Police in Nairobi are investigating the mysterious death of three people who were found dead in a lodging in Pipeline estate, Embakasi on Monday afternoon.

The Star reports that the two men and a woman were found hugging each other when their bodies were found in a room at Chairman Lounge Guest House. Their lips were intercrossed while one of the men was bleeding from the mouth and nose.

The two males have been identified as 63-year-old Philip Murefu Simiyu and 28-year-old Boniface Muchiri Waruiru while the woman is yet to be identified.

Police said there were no signs of forced break-in into the room and are treating the deaths as suicide. It is also suspected that the three may have been involved in a cult.

“A postmortem will tell us if they took poison or what happened in the room. For now, we do not know what could have led to the deaths,” Paul Wachira, head of Nairobi Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said.

The deceased are said to have checked into the room at around midnight on Sunday but failed to check out on Monday as expected.

An attendant sent to check on them said there was no response, forcing the management to call police, who broke in through the window at around 2:00 pm and discovered the bodies.

The bodies of the three were moved to the City Mortuary awaiting postmortem. Detectives are also tracing the families of the deceased.
