Francis Atwoli Defends Himself After Wrongly Predicting US Presidential Election

Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) secretary-general Francis Atwoli has defended himself after his prediction on the 2020 US elections failed.

Appearing on a local TV show in May this year, Atwoli expressed confidence that Donald Trump would be re-elected as US President by thumping his competitor Joe Biden of the Democratic Party.

In the past few days, a section of Kenyans on social media has been trolling Atwoli after Biden trounced Trump having garnered more than 270 electoral college votes needed to win a US presidential election.

In his defense, the vocal trade unionist said Trump was to blame for his own downfall, noting that he (Trump) had all the cards at the time he made the prediction.

The Trump administration’s mishandling of the Covid-19 pandemic and the #BlackLivesMatter movement cost him the election, according to Atwoli.

“I’ve always said a day in politics is very longtime. When I said Trump is going to win he had all the cards with him,” Atwoli said through Twitter on Sunday.

He added: “Then came the Black Lives Matter Movement and the politicization of COVID-19 pandemic. Tables turned on him and these two became his greatest undoing.”

Atwoli has previously claimed to have a distinctive behavior to predict things correctly including the handshake between President Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga in 2018.
