Detectives in Thika, Kiambu County are investigating an incident where a businessman lost Sh5.7 million after parking his car and going for a short call in a public toilet.

Mathew Magenda Githinji, the director of Bxbakolinxm Limited, is said to have withdrawn the money from three banks within Thika town on Wednesday before he drove to the public washroom for a short call, only for robbers to steal it from his car.

“He reported that he proceeded to NCBA bank in Thika and withdrew Sh2.3 million, he then went to ABSA Bank Thika Branch and withdrew Sh1.8 million, plus another Sh1.5 million from Consolidated Bank within the town,” reads a report filed at Thika Police Station under OB number 58/22/06/2022 as quoted by Nation.

The businessman told police that he kept the money under the front passenger seat of his Nissan March registration number KCX 584R before driving to a public toilet located near the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) Thika depot, opposite St Patrick Catholic church.

“He then proceeded to the toilets to relieve himself. However, upon coming back, he realized that the right rear window had been broken and cash totaling Sh5.7 million missing.”

Detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Thika have taken over investigations into the matter.
