Dr. Nira Patel: Kenya Loses Another Senior Doctor to Covid-19

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has announced the death of yet another senior doctor, Dr. Nira Patel.
Dr. Patel, a dental surgeon specialized in orthodontics, succumbed to Covid-19 complications on Saturday, according to the union.

“We mourn the passing on of Dr. Nira Patel due to COVID-19 complications. A dental surgeon specialized in orthodontics, a mentor to many, and was recently bestowed with the life membership of the Kenya Dental Association. Condolences to the family & friends. May her soul Rest In Peace,” KMPDU wrote on Saturday.
She becomes the latest medic to die from the infection after nephrologist Dr. Anthony Were, who passed away on Friday night.
Until his death, Prof. Were was the Head of the Renal Unit at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

The kidney specialist died while undergoing treatment at a Nairobi hospital, where he had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for 10 days.
He was also the president of the African Association of Nephrology and Deputy Director of the East African Kidney Institute. Were, 64, previously served as a senior lecturer at the University of Nairobi.
