1. The Kenya High School

Located in Kileleshwa suburb in Nairobi County, Kenya High School ranks top among the best girls national schools in Kenya. The school was founded in 1908 under the name Kenya European Girls’ School and later renamed to The Kenya High in 1963. The school, which enrolls about 1200 students every year, had a mean score of 10.467 in last year’s KCSE examinations, making it the best national school in Kenya.

2. Alliance Girls High School

Alliance High School is one of the top national schools located near Kikuyu town in Kiambu County, approximately 20km from Nairobi. The school was founded in 1948 as the African Girls High School and sits just a short distance from the renowned Alliance High School, one of the best boys national schools in Kenya. The school had a mean of 9.92 in last year’s KCSE examinations.

3. Maryhill Girls’ High School

Maryhill Girl’s High School was founded by the great missionaries, the Sisters of Our Lady of Africa in 1933 to offer education to children born of mixed races in East Africa. Children of mixed races were discriminated against in African, European and Asian Schools; hence Maryhill Girls’ became an academic sanctuary for them. The school was later turned into a public school and continues to produce some of the best-performing candidates in KCSE, with last year’s class registering a mean of 9.92.

4. Pangani Girls High School

Pangani Girls High School was founded in 1932 as the Duchess of Gloucester School, named after the late Princess Alice, the Duchess of Gloucester. It initially admitted purely Asian students from the Asian families that to this day live in Ngara and Pangani estates in Nairobi.

The school was later renamed to Pangani Girls High School in 1963 after Kenya got its independence, and begun enrolling African students. The school’s impressive academic performance since the 80s saw it elevated to a National School in 2011, and last year it had a mean of 9.56.

5. Nakuru Girls High School

Nakuru Girls High School is currently the best national school in Nakuru County and also among the best girls national schools in Kenya. It is located along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway adjacent to Naivas Supercenter. The public high school recorded a mean of 9.52 in last year’s KCSE examinations.

6. Loreto High School, Limuru

Loreto High School is a girl’s national school in Karambani, Kiambu County, approximately 28km from the capital city of Kenya, Nairobi. The school was founded in 1936 by the Sisters of Loreto who came from Ireland to Kenya as Catholic missionaries.

The school was started to offer education to African girls who, at that time, were denied the right to academic education. The school has grown over the years and is currently considered among the best girls national schools in Kenya, with last year’s mean of 9.47 a clear proof that it deserves all the praise coming their way.

7. St. Brigids Girls High School, Kiminini

St. Brigids Girls High School, Kiminini is a girl national boarding school located in Saboti Constituency in Trans Nzoia County. The school had a mean of 9.402 in last year’s national examinations, making it the best performing high school in the entire county.

8. Moi Girls High School, Eldoret

Located just outside Eldoret CBD, Moi Girl’s High School – Eldoret is one of the best-performing national school in Uasin Gishu county. The school was established in 1928 as The Highlands School and the name changed to Moi Girls High School in 1978. The school had a mean of 9.32 in KCSE examinations.

9. Kipsigis Girls High School

Kipsigis Girls High School was established in 1955 as an African Girls Boarding School. Located just outside Kericho town, the school was elevated to a secondary school in 1965. It is one of the best girls’ national schools in Kenya located in the Rift Valley region. It registered a mean of 9.08 in last year’s national examinations.

10. Starehe Girls Centre

Starehe Girls Centre is a national school located in Bustani Estate off Kiambu Road, approximately 20km north of Nairobi. The school is known to be among the best girls’ national schools in Kenya and had a mean of 9.07 in last year’s national examinations.

11. Bishop Gatimu Ngandu Girls

Initially called Ngandu Mission, Bishop Gatimu Ngandu Girls was started in 1964 by the late Bishop Caesar Maria Gatimu as Ngandu Girls. In 1988, the school was renamed in honor of its founder after his death. It was elevated to a National School in 2013 and has a student population of approximately 1070. It had a mean of 8.96 in last year’s national examinations.


12. Limuru Girls High School

Regarded among the best girls national schools in Kenya, Limuru Girls is a girls school located in Tigoni, approximately 29km from Nairobi. The school was founded in 1922 by Arnold Buttler McDonell and has since grown to become one of the best high schools in Kiambu County. The school scored a mean of 8.70 in last year’s KCSE examinations.

13. Asumbi Girls High School

Asumbi Girls High School is a national girls boarding school located in Homa Bay County. The school was started in 1936 by the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Saint Joseph as Lower Boarding Primary School. It has since grown and now is a national high school that registered a mean of 8.58 in last year’s KCSE examinations.

14. Karima Girls High School

Located in Kinangop Constituency in North Kinangop, Karima Girls High School is a girls national high school started in 1969. The school was built on a piece of land donated by Sir Humphrey Slade, a white settler who was then speaker of the Legislative Assembly. The school has grown over the years and recorded a mean of 8.58 in last year’s national examinations.

15. Moi Forces Academy, Lanet

Located in Lanet, a short distance from Nakuru CBD, Moi Forces Academy, Lanet has been one of the few consistent best-performing girls schools in Nakuru County. The school had a mean of 8.40 in last year’s KCSE examinations
