The United States has donated 517,140 more Pfizer Covid-19 vaccines to Kenya to boost the ongoing vaccination drive.

The consignment donated through the COVAX facility landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Saturday and was received by the Ministry of Health officials.

The arrival of the package brings the total number of Covid-19 vaccines donated to Kenya by the US government to 8,173,700 doses, according to the American Embassy in Nairobi.

“The United States has donated 8.1 million doses of Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson and Johnson vaccines with more on the way. Proud to be part of a global effort to bring life-saving vaccines to Kenyans,” said the embassy.

This was the 10th donation from the US since the start of vaccination in 2021. On Monday, the US donated another 1,368,900 doses of Pfizer to Kenya to boost the vaccination campaign.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe says a total of 11,987,147 vaccines had been administered across the country as of January 28th, with 137,031 being booster doses.

Kenya targets to inoculate the entire adult population of 27,246,033 by June this year.
